Questions about 91-94 side factory ground effects

I've noticed that a lot of people here have removed these. Looking at mine I see there are a lot of tiny scratches in them, but if you look at it from a certain angle it looks like the car has running boards. Why do people remove these and will it give me any more ground clearance? Thanks

they are exactly that. they cover up the pinch welds for a prettier look. they do get prettyscratched up and tend to hang up all the time if you go wheeling. they also reduce clearance by like 2 inches

Reduce clearance? Not really..my skid plates are lower than my ground effects. They do get whacked alot and tend to crack and break with alot of rough trail or rock crawling use tho..plus with them off and smoother sides installed, it does make you ride look higher ;-)
