The bumper off the 98-2000 will fit the 97 bumper correct. Please help I am about to order one and would rather have the newer round headlight bumper instead of the old rectangle for lamps.

That is correct, the new bumper will fit a 97, but you have to use the new bumper brackets. The old 97 brackets won't work on the new bumper.
