quick interchange question

Hi, guys. My name's Eric and I just joined this forum yesterday. Stopped by the "new members" area yesterday to introduce myself and ask a few questions. Got pointed in this direction for one of them. Here it is:

Is the transfer case from a '96 V-8 Explorer Limited (4R70W transmission) interchangeable with a '95 Explorer pushrod 4.0 liter (4R55E transmission)?

Both vehicles are 4 -door. I need another 4405 because mine took a dump beyond financially-justifiable repair. Thanks for any info.

Doubtful. I believe the tailshaft housing boltpattern on the 4R55E is different from the 4R70W. Not to mention, the V8 Explorer would have the AWD t-case (4404 isn't it?), and, even if it did bolt up, you would lose the 2H and 4L options. (I'm assuming the V8 still has the stock t-case, and someone hasn't done some kind of swap on that vehicle).
