My 4x4 hasn't worked due to an electrical problem(most likely) for a good bit of time now... And I heard that cleaning the shift motor/rebuilding the shift motor may get it to work again... I don't have very much free time right now and was wondering how long cleaning it would take, and if my car would run just fine if I wasn't able to finish in time and left it off... I dont see why it would affect normal driving if I left it off since it really doesn't do anything but shift into Auto/Hi/Low and since that doesnt work and it would just stay in Auto as it does now...

Thanks

I have, thats how I learned about this. My real only question is to make sure I can take it off and still drive around without it being on... without damaging anything.

I'm in that situation today - doesn't seem to make any diff. In fact if I can't get the motor to work I'm gonna leave it off for now so I can shift w/ a set of pliers if need be...

Thanks mpierch.

Thats what I expected, but didn't want to find out the hard way if I was wrong.

on your '98, the only thing it does is shift to low. has no effect on auto/4hi.
