96 Explorer Sport
To start off I have a 96 Explorer Sport with the standard audio package. One of the first things I did was change the head unit to Alpine CDE-9852, or something similar. After that i blew one of the speakers so I got 2 new 6x9's for the back.
My only problem right now is there is no bass, if I turn up the bass on the head unit it sounds almost worse. So I want a sub, not a neighbor annoying system, but just the right amount.

I want to have the box hidden in the back like the stock one so after looking online I found plans for one.

With those plans I am going to put in a 10' sub, and i was thinking of the Audiobahn AW1051T.

To power it I found a BOSS CH1500D

Now the big question, Will the sub, amp, and box work together?

IMO, the Boss brand is subpar swap meet junk.

audiobahn and boss are both crap brands

I know they are not the best, but I really just want some bass. :(

What would you recommend I should get? Budget would be around $200, but if I had to I can probably go $300.

Edit: When looking at the Watts a sub and amp put out, what would be considered a good number? I know to look at the RMS, but should i be looking at 100 watts, or 200-300 watt range? I am really lost on this one. My friend has a stock 6' sub in his Firebird that runs on 100 watts and it sounds good.
Sorry if this has been asked before I just get confused every time I look into getting one.

Edit2: If i just got http://cgi.ebay.com/KICKER-ZX350-4-4-CHANNEL-350-Watt-Amplifier-NEW-06-AMP_W0QQitemZ360026267150QQihZ023QQcategoryZ39739QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
would that work for the 6x8's i have?

Look into elemental designs.

You aren't paying for a name, like you do with Kicker, JL, or any of the other known brands.

Do research and you'll see that eD subs can do exactly what JL subs (best in the business in a lot of peoples oppinions) can do, for 1/2 the price.

They've been around for like 8 years now and are top notch.

If you do decide to go with them be sure to use the package builder to save 15%. Plus you get free shipping.

While I haven't been into car audio for a while I really was into it back in high school. Your problem sounds really simple, are the 6x9's sealed/mounted well? I had 6x9's in my first car and before I really sealed them up right even the entire trunk wasn't a very good "sub box". 6x9's can produce some great sound with 30-40 RMS watts, by the way don't waste your time with crappy brands, buy something that you feel good about buying. As little as 30-50 watts can sound awesome.

You could always go the cheap route as I did in my "Budget Bass" project...

This setup pictured had a small Alpine amp, Goldwood 8" sub, PAC OEM-2, some amp install kit from eBay, and a 91-94 OEM enclosure. Total was pry a bit over $100. Setup now has a larger Alpine amp, and an 8" round 2ohm Kicker Solobaric.

The smaller Alpine MRP-T220 amp is for sale if interested.
