Quick TT Question

I've got a friend that has an ST and somehow he put 33s on without any lift. Anyway he's tired of not being able to turn. I'm going to help him with a TT but do you have to have the weight off the front or can it be sitting on the ground? Problem is we don't have any jackstands I trust here at school.

Definitely get the wheels off the ground, especially when tightening.
Penetrant or heat may also help, broken torsion bolts are a real PITA.
Wood blocks if you don't have stands, NEVER concrete hollow tile. Be safe.

I did it when mine was just on ramps, so weight was still on the wheels but at least I could get under it. But I also sprayed a ****-ton of some penetrant on it, and then I turned them very slowly.

I suppose it's a good influence since we always need more lifted Tracs around. They're starting to get to the age where they are either going to be run into the ground and then crushed or become somebody's awesome project. We need more of the latter.

Well OffTrac I am working on the needing more lifted ones on mine. Before Lima (a big 4x4 show) here local I am going to do a 3" body, 2" suspension and 33x12.50 R22 Tires on a set of aftermarket 22x10 wheels. I am used to huge 44" tires but I want something my old butt can get into and out comfortably. I love the look of these ST.

Just as an fyi theres no need to jack the truck up. They aren't easy to turn but you've seen how skinny I am. You shouldn't have any problems, and if so then just grab the breaker bar ( I used a 3/8 ratchet)

Since I can slide all the way under mine with 33" tires sitting on the ground, I just put a jack on the front subframe and lifted it up. You don't need to get fully under the truck to get to the torsion bolts- your arm and part of your chest at most. If my Explorer were to fall from about 4 feet in the air, the suspension wouldn't compress enough to crush any part of me- let alone my arm should the jack slip with the tires 1/2" off the ground.

I am gonna change the bolts too and gonna jack it up to take some of the pressure off the torsion bar.

My only concern is getting reliable jack stands. For my own truck I didn't think twice about getting the wheels off the ground but I was at home not school.
