Hello again.
Planning on change the serpentine belt on my 94 XLT I read that some are quiets than others.
What brand models are the quieter and best ones?
Thanks la for your answers!

Dayco belts have a cloth backing (not backing, in the ribbed area), and mine seems pretty quiet. Once upon a time ago I read some reason why someone didn't like them but the reason escapes me now.

Edit: Dayco doesn't call it cloth but rather "Aramid noise resistant fibers embedded in the rubber make this belt run quieter in worn or misaligned pulleys"

Have had no problems with mine, but haven't put that many miles on in the 7 years it's been installed. I got it from Autozone for $25 after a coupon code at the time, but may be cheaper online. I know a lot of people like Gates belts but I've only had the original factory belt and this Dayco on my '98.

Dayco for me as well

Also keep in mind that if it's still using the original idler pulley and/or tensioner, either might cause noise, and either might be due for replacement at this point. I'd go ahead and replace them if it's never been done, or I suppose you can just do the belt and go from there, not like it's brain surgery to take the belt back off to do that if it's needed.

thanks for your repplies
i'll follow the dayco suggestion.
As i don't know the past of the car, nor the previous owners, i guess it will be a good idea to replace iddlwer pulley and tensioner, and once the belt removed i'll check f the alternator has tha axe loose....
Any other suggestion involving components where the bels has contact?

There's nothing much else to do, necessarily, except look around for leaks, damaged wiring, etc. like you would any time you're in a nearly 30 y/o engine bay. Water pump will usually weep coolant when its bearing is going out. I guess you could check for play on the power steering pump.

thanks J_C.
i've the truck from a few days, I'm just getting to know him.
I've seen a red leak in the floor the second day i went to try it prior to buy, i thought it was a radiator leak, but i'm affraid is a steering pump one.
I need to take a look closer on that.
