Radiator fan bearing noise 2016 Models

My dealer has replaced the fans (I should be picking up tomorrow) and will advise if the noise is gone/reduced.

Did they say if the replacement fans are of a new design?

They really need to figure something out with these fans. My update is as follows. Already had 2 fans replaced. When I brought mine in for a third time, they said they were contacting FORD. That was 2 weeks ago. In Ohio, the lemon law states that they have 3 opportunities to fix the problem. I may be pursuing this depending on what comes out of this last attempt.

Just to add to this, if they are, did they put a part number on the work order/invoice?

There is a 'redesigned' unit now but if they didn't use it as a replacement then you are likely going to continue having issues.

Will advise when I pick up tomorrow (Fri 5/13)

Yeah, was a little concerned about that... ;)

Mine stopped making the shutdown squeal. Maybe not enough bearing clearance from the factory..

Make sure you take a close read of the Ohio Lemon Law - your cooling fan issue may not apply.

Oh, and I just noticed it happening on mine tonight. I'll let my dealer know, and after they figure out a permanent fix, I'll take it in and get it fixed. For now, it is not affecting my ability to use the Explorer, and honestly - it's not that bad from my perspective.

If it were to totally fail, that would be an issue. As of now, a little squeal as it's winding down is not something I'm getting excited about.

I had the same issue. Told the dealer about this thread. Brought truck in last week and they replaced fan. Dealer said there is a special service bulletin on this issue. Dealer replaced with the new fan and I have not had the noise since. However, when replacing the fan the tech broke a bolt and punctured the radiator. So now I have a new radiator after 1,000 miles.

If they can reference a SSM # that would be great. I looked through everything listed for the 2016 Explorer and did not see anything regarding it.

Welcome to the Forum.:wavey:
Did they list a part number for the fan assembly on your paperwork? We have been trying, without any luck, to get the part number to see if it differs from the original.

An Internet search on that number shows 2013 MKT/ Flex/Explorer radiator fan/motor.

Well I'm going to stop reading posts that talk about problems with the 2016 Explorers. Last night my fan started to squeal, just like others have talked about. Now I am really regretting reading about the throttle body problems.....will that be next?

Unfortunately I have had nothing but problems with my '16 Sport and it only has 4K miles. It's bean at the dealership for a week already because the transmission broke (3-5-R wave plate shattered), fan squeal, front end clunk, and the leather on the drivers side seat cushion is loose. It's a shame because I like the vehicle, but Ford's build quality has left a lot to be desired. Hopefully it all gets fixed and I don't have any more issues.

The 2016 seems to have inherent issues with the cooling fans and throttle body. Apparently the throttle body is a new design but unsure why they are having the fan squeal issue. There is supposed to be a 'redesigned' cooling fan that is to be used to replace the squealing ones.
