Radio Display Problems

I recently purchased my 98 XLT and have noticed a problem with the frequency and clock display on my radio. It seems to illuminate whenever it wants and doesnt the rest of the time. Its totally random and a pain in the butt. If the radio is off then the clock display acts the same and if the radio is on then both dispalys are on or off together. Ive seen occassional references to this problem but was wondering if there are any fixes..recalls..etc. Any help is greatly appreciated

There is a fix on here, just do a search and it tells you how to fix it, FYI it is a heat problem.

The best fix is to junk the POS and gp woth an aftermarket HU' you will never regret the move.

Thanks Al and Kev....but AL.....what is an aftermarket HU?? Can you recommend a replacement unit that has the same features? Thanks
