You need a Ford stereo removing tool. Most stereo stores have them. I got mine for free with my stereo from Crutchfield.

Regaurding radio removal

I just took the radio out of our 94 explorer. I read the manual and saw the required removal tool and it seemed to me that I could find something in my garage that would fit the four holes (two on each side) and would push in the springed metal tabs that hold the radio in place. I found my dremel tool and used four of the bits. I inserted the end that attaches to the dremel tool into the holes and carefully pushed all four bits away from the radio and pulled the radio right out of the dash. Took all of five minutes and most of that time was looking for the bits. Once out I pushed the tabs to the wiring harnesses and unpluged the antenna lead. Now for the hard part. My daughter wants a "System". Whats a system anyway?

Like the factory 9 speaker JBL system in my Limited? Except that I had to replace the 6.5'' sub with a cheap one (they're really hard to find) it still sounds good and none of the speakers have blown or deteriorated

hey thanks for the quick response guys. i really do appreciate it. i'll try it out tomorrow. thanks again guys.

yeah the limited has crazy speakers there clean sounding still, the sub in the back i ordered one from JL audio they make a box that fits back there, it was a few houndred bucks but hopefully it will sound good, and for the stock radio any auto part store has them but they are like 6 bucks i bought them removed the radio then returned them...good lucks it kinda easy tho..later

alright so i tried it out but it seemed to be stuck. my local auotparts store didnt have the tool so i just decided to use allen wrenches. i put them in the holes, and then pulled on the radio. but that didnt seem to work. i know that the guy who owned it before me probably messed with it somehow. is there any other suggestions you guys could give me . i would appreciate it . thanks

U have to jiggle it...lol like push them out toward the doors kinda then pull i have to unlach it, then it slides out...... u have to play with it i did

I just used some large nails. I slid one into all four holes. then take the ones on the left and push them towards the drivers side, push the right ones to the passanger side. There is a little spring loaded clip that you need to push towards the radio. Once you have pushed each side the correct way you will need to pull it out.. they can be a bit sticky.

here are some pics and possibley a better explanation.

Yeah I have seen that Q sub box. I've considered it but being 18 I don't feel like paying for it :p Gee I just realized I've been on this forum since I was 14.

But yeah my JBLs still sound good. I think I'll just get some cheap 6.5'' ebay sub for the back because the ones from advance auto parts keep sucking
