I have a 1997 Ford Explorer that came with a factory installed radio/cassette. Now, when driving along at night with the lights on the radio lights (vol controls, tape controls etc.) will go out but the clock display will remain lit. It willl stay off for a while then go back on again. This will happen when I am driving or stopped at a light or drive thru. It will go off for 5-10 mins or less and stay on for about the same length of time. Any suggestions?

aftermarket cd or tape player. It could be loose connections inside the radio. I've worked at a stereo shop before were we would repair radio's. They would charge $50 just to look at it, then whatever parts cost. You can decent radio brand new with warrenty for $90 to $150 for basic models. Also check on ebay, they have stock units going cheap all the time. just my 2 cents
