I have a 2000 Limited with the Mach audio package with eh 6 CD changer. Like a good chunk of Explorers, my display is out so I'm at a cross roads. I really would like to get a factory radio to keep the stock CD changer along with the radio controls and factory amp set up, but a big must for me is an AUX port. I see there's a sizable amount of people who refurbish stock radios on eBay and add an 3.5mm plug which would be awesome. Does anyone have any info as far as what they tap into? Obviously it has to do with the tape deck since when you plug something in the radio switches to tape mode. If I can get even the slightest info as far as what is taped into I have no problem taking my radio apart, getting the new part from Pioneer to fix the display, and soldering in leads for an AUX port.

The other option I was looking at was the plug in AUX interfaces that seem to all plug in place of the CD changer so perhaps if I could use a newer deck with the built in 6 CD changer that would be a viable option.

Any help is appreciated!

No one?

Hmm, odd that I missed this thread.
I'll give you an answer tomorrow since I'm heading off.
Sorry, hang tight.

Alright, I recommend you just buy the radio online with the aux feed. The display going out is very common. If you want to keep the factory CD changer working, it's easiest to use a stock head unit.
Another way to tap in an aux jack is by tapping into the CD changer wires, the sound + and - for the CD with a + and - from a female aux jack.

If I could do it my self I would much prefer because the radio pre fit with the AUX jack is almost $300. I was thinking of buying another factory radio to do some experimenting on. If has to be something easy because when it gets input it tricks the radio into thinking it's a tape.

Hmm, the way I know it is you make the radio think it's a CD and tap into the console CD player wires. I honestly think that's the best bet. As for the radio, just get a scrap yard one and test if the display works.
