Ok...this is probably a stupid question, but I searched and didn't find any definitive answers, so here it goes...

I have a Pioneer Premier DEH 760MP Head Unit...let's basically call it a year old. Well, about a month after I installed it, it just shut off...the problem that occured was that the harness came unplugged. Well, just last night, a couple of my buddies and me were coming back from a club, and my CD started skipping...no scratches or anything, just starts skipping. I eject it and try another CD while one of my buddies looks at the first CD and cleans it off, and no sound out of the 2nd CD. Put the first CD back in, and no sound still.

Here is the weird part about it all...I pull the HU out and unplug all of the wires and plug them back in, just to make sure...and still no sound. Through all of this(before unplugging the HU and on the interstate back from the club), not only did I not have CD Functionality, but I had no sound from my Tuner either. So now I have no CD Player and no Radio...any thoughts??? At first a buddy of mine thought that maybe the fuse on the radio was blown, but if it was blown, the radio would not turn on, am I right?

Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

First, I would check all the connections and make sure thats not the problem. Second, some Pioneers have two fuses on the back of the HU (One for the HU amp and the other for the HU). If those aren't the problem, contact Pioneer and explain your situation. HU may be bad and need repair or replacing. Easiest way to find out if it is a HU, swap it out with a known good one.

Well, I just went out and checked the wires again, and it was to no avail. I even checked the fuse that I found on the back of the HU and replaced it, no good. I replaced the fuse in the fuse box of the X, and no good. It is turning on just fine, just not getting any sound. Worked one second and then shut off the next.

*sigh*

This is really upsetting. I contacted Pioneer, but it's hard to tell how long before they get back to me. Any other thoughts, anyone? I might go and try to hook up another HU to it...if I can find my old Alpine around somewhere...hahaha...

Hmm...interesting...I was playing with it some more, and I plugged it back in to go to my buddies house to try his HU out, and low and behold it works...however...whenever I accelerate, break, or hit a tiny dip in the road, it cuts out, then comes back on after a few seconds. The only thing that I can think of now is that there are some wires loose or something. Whenever we get some warmer weather, I will probably take it apart and check all of the wires and probably soder them together.

Do you all think that since it comes on and then cuts off whenever the vehicle jerks that it could be a loose wire somewhere???

Last night going to work, it worked fine...would cut out on occasion, but it worked just fine. This morning coming home from work(midnights suck anyways), it cut out on me and didn't make anymore sound.

I just got back inside from looking at the wiring harness and all of the wires, and it still comes on and is playing something, just no sound is being produced. So I might just say forget about it and go get a new HU or something. I'm a little upset...any more ideas anyone???

it must have something loose inside.

at first i was going to ask if you had bypassed the stock amp or not, and if that could be the problem.

i'm assuming it is not covered by any warranty etc. You could still call pioneer and have them tell you where a local shop that is qualified to do the repair is located. where did you purchase it from? how long have you had it? often a repair like this is $50-100. and its usually at least $35 for them to even look at it.

another option would be to send it up here. i might be able to trade you a different hu for it or something and work on repairing it myself.

In the right rear quarter panel in the cargo area check and see if you have an external amp. If there is one back there disconnect maybe clean the connectors and plug it back in tight and see if it's helps. A lot of people have had similar problems including me and it was just the fact that the amp connection got loose.

Put the stocker back in and it works just fine...my cousin works at the place that repairs Pioneers around here, so he's looking at it for me...gotta love family workin' places where you get major discounts/freebies...hahaha...

My Pioneer stereo worked intermittently kinda like that, just wouldn't turn on some days. Have you checked the connections on the faceplate? That seemed to be where mine was having issues.

another possibility is 1) you had a loose wiring connection to power up the factory amp. {the blue or blue/white wire on the pioneer} 2) you have a speaker grounding out. seen it lot of times 'fore where a stock radio works fine but the aftermarket won't. using a DMM, checked each speaker for proper resistance value and each speaker lead for any continuity with ground. if the audio gets grounded out it will cut the amp off
