2001 Explorer
Hello all, I think I have got it.
Today I made wash my 2001 Explorer and its engine, after that I realized that it was weird behavior with the air bag panel light (issue that disappeared after one hour) and also the radio issue exactly the same original in this forum, a couple hours later I opened the fuse box and saw there was water inside. I blew and dried it and saw that the grey ignition relay was recently sulphated. I cleaned it, plugged it and it was the same. Then I perceived that there was still some water dripping from the grey ignition relay, in fact, that relay had water inside. When I unplugged I checked the car again and the radio issue disappeared. I opened the relay, it was full of water inside, I dried it, cleaned and sprayed some WD40 kind oil, sealed it very well and plugged it again. SOLVED, all the issues gone. I think that it was making a short circuit and causing weird things. I cant believe that this Grey (made in Canada) relay is not waterproof as it is a sensitive electrical part. I hope it is useful for you. Good luck!!. (picture of relay location posted, Grey one, top and left)

I wash my engine compartments occasionally, usually before making repairs, but I'm carful not to spray a lot of water in/on the electrical components. I also just use a garden hose set to mist, or with no nozzle at all (not a pressure washer, or the wand at the self car wash) to rinse stuff off.

Over the years I've experienced electric problems after washing (not on Fords) but once things have warmed up to operating temp and dried they've usually gone away. Electricity and water are not best friends.
