Got a 93 Explorer, radion turns on and if volume is all the way up, you can barely hear music from speakers. Tried to "hot wire" a new set of speakers to existing wiring...nothing.

Is the radion bad, power amp??, or fuse blown (although this was the first thing I looked for and didn't find a bad one.

Thanks!!!

It sounds like your factory amp has gone bad.

Could be the amp went, could be the radio itself.

If you bypass the amp, you'll need an aftermarket radio. The stock radio won't deliver anything to the speakers without the amp.

Easiest thing to do if the factory radio/amp goes is just put in a new aftermarket stereo, run wires from the stereo to the speakers, done.

Thanks for all the replies... I concur it is most likely the amp. Since I paid $500 for this thing, I may hit some junk yards to salvage another one and try a swap. I drive it 6 miles per day to work and back to keep the miles off my 2500HD Silverado. This little Ford Explorer drives great, runs great, 4x4 still works, Tach is broke, fuel guage won't work, temp guage works most of the time, driver window sort of works...all in all a great cheap daily driver. Got a boom box in the back seat for my tunes now, until I wait for warmer weather to swap the amp.

:salute:
