I have done many searches on this topic but still wasn't sure so I figured I would just start another post. I bought a 94 Explorer Sport about 6 months ago and have been noticing a clunking noise every time I come to a complete stop. I also notice it when I am going over speed bumps but only when the rear tires are going over. Also, it only seems to do this after the vehicle has been driven a bit and is "warmed up". I took it in to a shop and they said that my Radius Arm Bushings were shot. Could this make the thunking I am hearing?? Also, how could it be possible for the thunking to occur when the rear tires go over a bump if the radius arm bushings are in the front?? Most of the searches I have done turned up problems with the driveshaft? I just want to make sure they aren't screwing with me. Thanks for any help!

i think there is a good chance that the guys are right. Our X's are prone to the radius arm bushings getting worn out quickly. If you get them replaced and it solves it.. kool... if not oh well. Im sure down the road you'll need to replace them anyhow.
While your at it you might as well replace all the rest of the bushings with Polyurethane ones. You'll notice a huge difference in handling and reduced swaying!

Thats what i would do at least... take the suggestion for what it is worth
Good Luck

Thanks for the reply! How much do the poly bushings cost compared to the rubber? I really hope this solves the problem.

thats a review of the dayster bushings which are a sponser of the site. I myself have energy suspension bushings which i got from www.explorerexpress.com

check out the banners at the top and bottom of the page as well a thread somewhere on here about them...
i cant find the site right now... if i find it ill post it

Check the slip yoke on your driveshaft its been known to make clunks like that too.If its dry grease it and reseal it.I use a mixture of antisieze and moly grease and it usally lasts about a year and a half. And by the way Radius Arm bushings suck:(
