Nick-I've had the RS-5000s for about five years now on my '91XLT. They are a great improvement over stock in handling and ride. I chose them from past experience and price. I had a set on my '85 Bronco II. Its a bit on the firm side but it virtually eliminates rebound effect and the side to side jerking when going over uneven surfaces. I say they are good for street and light offroading because of the firmness. If you have a little extra money and plan to do offroading, check out the RS-9000s. If I had to change my shocks, its the one I would go for since you'll be able to customize the shocks to your preference. Look for places offering the buy three get the forth free offer. Either way, you can't go wrong with Rancho products. I even have a steering stabilizer from them. Hope this helps.

Nick,
I just addes the RS5000's to my truck and love them. I do mainly road travel with light off roading. The thing is very stable and the typical bounce-b-b-b-b-bounce is gone. Well worth the money. I paid $42/each for reference.

i have the 5000's as well and have been impressed with their performance. i got them mainly b/c they were $34 a piece on sale. but you may want to consider edlebrock b/c they are made specifically for your model car and not "one size fits all" like rancho.

I have the Rancho RS5000's on my explorer as well. I love them! They are a GREAT improvement over stock. Here's a little trick to cure those front end shimmies. Visit your local 4x4 shop and get some polyurethane bushings for the top stud on the front shocks. It eliminates almost all of the vibrations you feel in the steering wheel and makes the ride a little more pleasant. They are really cheap (about $.50 a peice) and I think you can get them in any color you want.

WHY SETTLE FOR RANCHO'S 5000'S WHEN FOR A FEW $$$ MORE YOU COULD GET THE 9000'S. THE 5000'S ARE VERY GOOD SHOCKS, BUT THE 9000'S ARE FAR MORE SUPERIOR. ON THE MAY ISSUE OF "FOUR WHEELER" ON PG. 23 YOU'LL FIND THE OFFER OF "BUY THREE & GET ONE FREE", THIS OFFER CAN'T REALLY BE BEAT.
