Random hesitation, feels Like tranny but not near shift point, only on takeoff

UPDATE: Had it happen two times in a row today, pretty bad. Then was great the whole rest of the day. I'm confused. Mine seems to do it most when the car HASNT warmed up yet.

Please let me know if this helps, I don't see how the rear end could be the cause but I for one am not very mechanically inclined.

Jason@Flashtech Here's an update. I had the rear diff flushed and filled with new fluid and slip additive and that did the trick for me. No more grinding/grunting on take offs when I turn the wheel slightly. I always thought the problem was in the front on the left side. Turned out it was the rear diff making me think the problem was in the front! Good luck with yours!

Could you provide me with more info on this slip additive?

Thanks!

Earlier this week I changed my transfer case fluid. It was dirty but not burned or any bits in it so that was nice. However it didn't fix my problem. Yesterday I was driving in the rain and it seemed like the sound was from the rear axle for once when normally it sounds/feels as if from the front. Today I tried it offroad just a bit and when going up hill while turning it was pretty bad.

I'm going to try as 'mhamric' mentions and change out the rear diff fluid. He is referring to additive for limited slip differentials. There is a post somewhere on the boards that you can find out if you need the additive by looking up your axle code number.

I don't know much about it. My mechanic works at a local Ford dealership so I can only assume he picked it up there. Drop by your Ford dealer and ask about it, I'm sure they'll have some in stock or someone else here will know more about it than I do.

Its called "friction modifier" and is added to the rear differential oil for the limited slip differential. It is in there to stop the clutches of the limited slip from "chattering" upon acceleration.

Ok some of you seem to be describign a slightly different situation than I am. When I turn this doesn't happen, it's when I go straight, and I hear no noise whatsoever, just an attempt to move that "hardly" works. Like it's bogging down almost?

It got a little better, now it is getting a little worse 6 months later. I had the rear dif fluid replaced and it maybe the improvement was in my head... still at a loss.

If you have done all that, try this..

How old are your coilpacks? Might be the coil packs if they are original.
