hello,

i am hoping that you guys can help to solve this problem.

i have a 2000 mountaineer awd v8. when i start it up after its been raining outside i noticed that it makes a noise. its kinda hard to describe. its a sqweeling/ sqreeching noise. its not vary loud but loud enough to heard of the radio/ driving with windows up.

the noise is constant. when you accelerate it seems to pick up a little bit, and when you idle its more quite but still there.

and when the engine is dry it doesnt make any noises.

i was thinking serp. belt, but i thought it should make a noise when its dry out also.

thanks guy i hope you can help!

Sounds like serp belt to me, common when wet out. Mine does it too when wet and goes away dry.

Yep, same here....

I had a similar problem on my old V6. A GatorBack belt fixed THAT problem.

If you still have the original belt it's probably stretched and due for replacement. If the tensioner is close to the end of its travel, that's a sure sign.

okay thank you guys. i noticed today tho after its been dry out and driving a little while that it still squeaks a little bit. im gona change the serp belt in the near future and see if that helps

Spend the extra money, and order the GatorBack if they don't have it in stock.

sorry kinda of a noob a lil. wats the difference between stock, and the gatorback? adv/ disadvantages?

I agree with getting the gatorback. Could be your a/c compressor. Thats the case on my explorer and ranger.

for it to be my a/c compressor would my a/c have to be on? for it to make the noise.

and some please explain differance of what a gatorback is versus a normal belt

Gatorback belts have a little texture to them and are supposedly less likely to stretch. So I've heard, never used on myself.

okay thank you for clarifying. the noise had stopped now :wtf::crazy:
so now i dont know exactly. but every time it rains it comes back. hmm i guess i will wait for my next paycheck and rainfall to look at it more.
