I have a 87 Ranger 4x4 with a FM145 transmission. The problem I have is it won't stay in 4th gear. All others working fine and it is not noisy. I assumed it might be like other Ford transmissions and be bearings, bushings or syncro problems. I plan to put a kit in it. My problem now is that I cannot get the rear housing off. The shift rails won't slide thru the housing, so I know I am doing something wrong. I just cannot figure out what that is. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I wish it could be as simple as the Warner 4 speed in my 76 Ford F100 Ranger 4x4!!
