I have a 09 eb. I have been trying my best to find a h.o. alt for my explorer. And have been contacting any h.o. alt companies. Just got off the phone with a gentleman who suggested maybe a 240 amp alt built in a ranger alt case. He also said it should be able to plug right in to my factory harness but due to the larger case I'd need to shim it out some. Has anyone ever done this? Does anyone know if it's possible? Please hit me back I'm dying to know.

How about an alternator for a police vehicle? Either sedan or SUV.

I'd be interested in any suggestions. Ford parts dept checked several different vehicles and no dice. I'll have to see what I can find out about the service vehicle alt thanks. Anyone else have any suggestions or solutions to this problem?

if you look on orileys web site they give you a tab of compatibility... 09-10 explorers share no alts with anything other than 09-10 mountys... this is the first thing I looked at when trying to figure out the alts on another thread ... even though it does not list my 07 alt compatibility with the 2001-1995's I think it would work since the plugs are the same but the 09-10's have a 3 wire hookup and all the others have 4 wires.... rangers were discontinued in mid 2012... and they also only had a 105amp alt option ... ford didnt change anything on the 4.0 sohc no matter what they put it in... so I would say you have the same exact thing already... just take in mind that a 105amp alt does not max 105 it makes 105 around 2000rpm.... my 130 makes more like 150 at 4000rpm but most of the time an engine is around 2000-2800... at idle 800-1000 the number is more like 80 than 105.... this is why people doing spl comps keep the engine around 3000 when they are metering

these guys say they can build anything it wouldnt hurt to fill out the request form and ask what they think... a stock alt is $303 so even $320 for a 150amp would be a steal

Shoot. Fats to the rescue again lol. Thanks for the link. Ill fill it out and see what I can find out. I spoke with a couple of manufacturers. And have been repeatedly told that the case is so small there is not room enough for the larger stator / more windings. Maybe these guys can help

From what i understand they are all internally regulated but after 2004 they became pcm controlled so we get screwed.... Lol

Well I got hold of the company u linked. And they said they'd call me back still nothing tho. Now im wondering if I shouldn't find myself a smaller amp like 6 to 800 w rms. At 1 ohms. Or something or even just keep 1 sub on 3 to 500 rms@2 ohms. The subs are 320 rms. Thoughts?

I wouldn't change anything for a light dimming issue... Try to add a second battery... Sooner or later somebody will have a solution

Damn fats lol. Take it easy on Hawaii hahaha. I appreciate the link Hawaii. But I agree the only thing that will fix my issues is a high amp alt. With an added battery won't I stress my alt more? I know I need to do the big 3 and I have been giving a east Penn built battery (Duracell agm) basically a group 65 deka intimidator a try with the big 3. Its 75 Amp hour battery. But if I add multiple batteries I have read several times that its even harder on my alt and im not interested in breaking down on my way to work. So any thoughts? Agm starting batt and big 3 ? Tho I have also read the big 3 can make the dimming issue worse via the big straw I'll be giving my Amp.

Adding a 2nd battery doesn't necessarily stress the alt more, unless you purposely run down both batts before starting the truck. A battery or bank of batteries only absorb as much charging current from the alt as it takes to re-charge them (based on state of charge).

But have you thought about leaving the factory alt where it is, and add in a second heavy truck / bus alternator that is self-regulated?

Some fabrication may be required, and you'll have to do a bit of research, but here's a good start from Leece Neville / Prestolite:

http://www.prestolite.com/pgs_products/alt_search.php

By playing with the voltage setting, you can bias the charging workload to either alt. For instance, if your factory alt is regulated at 14.4V, by setting the second alt at say 14.5V, you allow it to work a bit harder. Vice versa, if you set it at 14.3V, then the factory alt works harder.

that would be a great idea if anyone has done it... many company's make 2 alt setups but they are limited to GM because of the space and type of regulator... none of these company's do anything with ford making this a real gray area to play around in... its way more simple to add a 250+ amp alt over getting a second and making that work... too bad ford went with that Mitsubishi turd... really lame that 09 and up has no options let alone they changed to a 105 amp when I am pretty sure the factory electrical uses up alot of that power .... lighting alone can consume 50 amps

Hey everybody sorry for the disappearance lol been working slot and passing out not much after I get home. I went to a local fan shop with the idea of running a separate charting system alt, bat, and wiring just for my sound system the fab shop told me it would be 1500 and that there was no room at all to do this on my truck without even looking under the hood. I'm in North West Houston area of anyone knows someone in this area that may be able or willing to give a serious look instead of just saying I can't do it. I'd be much appreciative for the suggestion

well its not like they are wrong.... the only way to make room for 2 alts is to remove the AC pump.... and I thought you said something about texas... LOL

It seems that there would be room just below the all if a custom bracket and idler pulley were added and there's a bit of room directly to the left as I am looking at the front of the engine. Also definitely need ac as I am from the Houston area lol. On a different note I just realized my last post is messed up due to the damn autocorrect and predicted text on my new phone sorry
