Just a week and a day since I traded in the '96 Explorer for an '07 Ranger supercab 4 door 4x4. It's a 4.0 automatic, limited slip axle. As you can see below we got 8" of snow last night and it's now 27. We live at 800' elevation and I need to go down to a nearby city on business today (All downhill going, uphill coming back). In order to increase the weight over the axle to the equivalent of an Explorer as far as tracion, how many pounds do you suggest in the bed? I'll be carrying about 100 pounds in items to deliver already. Also will carry chains just in case.

This taken an hour after it started, I made it up the hill as it started to stick and other cars were sliding and spinning.

Couple hundred ought to do it. Easiest way is to use sandbags. Add or remove bags until you find just the right amount.

My dad has 300 lbs of sand in the back of his f150. It helps but doesn't solve the slipping. It's defiantly better with the sand in the bed then without.

I just wish I had some snow to play in... We only got about 2" up by my apartment and by the time I got home from school it was all gone. :(

I agree with snowboarder42, I need about 300lb to 400 lb of sand in my 87 to get much traction in the snow.

2-300 pounds at the back of the bed helps a lot. Nice truck BTW - congratulations!

It's nice that it's so warm there....... :) it was 4 here last night and supposed to be colder tonight!
