I just got a new MTX 6500D Mono amp, and am looking to buy a new 12' sub, I have 500 watts rms to play with, but I am having a hard time deciding what to buy. I'm looking at these the JL 12W6v2.... Image Dynamics IDQ12D2 V.2........... and the Diamond audio M6 12D2. Please give me your opinions on the best all around sub (SQ and SPL and PRICE). Thanks

Out of those three I would say the Image or JL, I have heard all 3 in a car and those two sounded the best. The Image may have gotten a little louder though.

The w6v2 are great subs. Can't go wrong with JL altho I have heard the diamond audio subs and they pound pretty damn hard. Sound quality doesnt match the jl but the spl blows them away.

Someone told me today that the Image dynamics are no longer being sold. Is this true? They're all over the internet. I heard the diamonds and I'm not too impressed I have only heard good things about the other two. I have always been a fan of JL.

I went up against a guy with w7's, and I beat him only cuz, he didn't understand how to build boxes.... let me tell you they are nice subs, and if the w6v2's are even half the sub these are...buy them..... just try to get a warranty, bass-heads have a tendency to blow stuff up!

Hey davesexplorer

What subs are you running I didnt quite get your post, do you have the jl w6v2's?

I vote JL all the way.

lol... guess anyone coulda guessed that though!:D

But in all seriousness... how loud are you trying to get? 12" W6v2 is too much for the 500 watt RMS. I have the kenwood excelon 401 amp (bout 1200 watts max) pumping 2 12" W3V2's :

#1: LOUD!! My friend has 3 Xtant hexagonals powered by the xtant 1000watt and im right there with him in SPL and maybe better in SQ.

#2: I have never had a problem with JL and their sound is amazing, i vote for them all the way.

email me with more info on what you're trying to accomplish with these subs and your exact amp w/power ratings... ill give ya a hand cause like i said- the W6 is going to be a waste of money unless you power 1 with the JL 500/1 amp... (my system is probably twice as loud as that and costs probably the same)

So email me and ill be glad to help sk1er18@aol.com

I'd have to say the three best are; (1) Quisno's (2) Blimpy's (3) Subway

Sorry, i could'nt help it. I dont know speakers, but i do know FOOD!!

I have to say even a joke that cheesy made me chuckle. I'm kinda ashamed. , do you really think that 500 watts rms isnt enough to run the w6v2's?SK1er17
JL audios web site says that the recomended power is about 400 watts. Where am I going wrong? the amp I am going to use is MTX6500D 250watts @ 4 ohms, 500 watts @ 2 ohms.

You could run it but it would be a waste of money for the sub. You're not going to be anywhere near that subs potential. It'd be better to get a W3, or two W0's. Or just upgrade the amp and get the W6's.. that'll deffinetally hit hard.

Example... my first set-up was the kenwood 600watt amp hooked up to ONE 12" xtant M-series... now thats 600 watts and i was powering 1 12" cheap sub.... you're planning on using a 500 watt to power a top of the lines sub.

Wattage is wierd, you have to look at more things. Another example... you can go to K-Mart and buy a pioneer sub that says it can handle 1500 watts for $100. C'mon now... my W3's only say peak wattage is 600 watts and continuous is 250watts- you think that pioneer can handle that or sound nearly as nice as my JL's?

What about diamond's subs?

dont know much about the diamonds, dont know anyone who has opted to buy them over JLs.... i conclude there is a reason for that.............

So if I were to get the W6v2 what kind of power do you think I should put through it? I thought 500 would be plenty. JL has a chart that shows the recommended power ranges for all of thier subs. JL Power chart (NOTE: the RED and BLACK zones) 500 watts through the W6v2 is shown to be more than enough. Just my 2 cents.

Ok, heres how it goes. any amp you hook up to that thing is going to make it work. That amp you have says 500 watts.. like that kenwood i had said 600, but it most likely wont put out that much, and thats 500 peak... so you'll fry the amp. Idealy for a W6 you would want the JL 500/1 amp. That is pretty much the best amp you can get and though it costs slightly more, its penny for penny worth every 500 watt.

My final point: that 500 watt amp you have WILL work, but you wont knw the difference between a W6 and a W3 if you hook either one up to it because that amp is good for a W3 but underrated for the W6- so itd be a waste of money to get the W6.

*** I am not a dealer, I have no certification in this department. I just know a lot on this subject and have friends who are dealers and certified.. but; Dont take my word for gold- go down to a GOOD audio place (not Circuit City or Best Buy- they dont hire guys that are certified), go somewhere like Tweeter or better and see what they say. Im positive you'll hear something very close to what im saying. (unless they want to make the money on selling a W6)

That could be very true. Thanks for all the input guys. I'll let you know what I do, when I do it.
