when I am driving it seems to be ok.. But when I go over a bump in the road it is very loud. It doesnt last long maybe 15 seconds. But it is annoying. seems to be related to the amount of gas I accelerate it seems to happen. But in 15 seconds it is gone...I let up on the gas and the sound goes away eventually. But I know it annoys people including myseft when driving. Could it be a loose bolt or the cat converter? It sounds like it is rattling against something under the truck. I will record the sound when I get my camcorder on it. I have had a mechanic test drive it and he heard the sound too he told me he would have to charge me to determine the sound problem. Anyone can shed some light on what this could be. Sometims I can drive 10 miles and not hear it. But once it happens for about 15 seconds it annoys the hell outta me. Any ideas what to tell the mechanic...could it be the heat shield doing it?

The heat shield on the cat converter is the first thing I would check. I had to fix this on my Mounty.

There are a couple small welds on the corners of the shield holding it on and over time they break.

I retightened the shield to the cat with a large band clamp and it fixed the problem.

Mine rattled mostly at idle RPM though...like at drive throughs (which made me feel like I was driving a POS lol).
But hopefully that's all it is cause it makes for a fairly easy fix.
It will only take 5 minutes to get under there & check.

A couple Issues need advice on

First of all my gas pedal snapped the rivets off the firewall and I am getting terrible acceleration. I have jerry rigged it so I have to stomp the pedal to the fireall to get any gas. Which is the best way to fix that gas pedal. Second Would a bad ignition coil cause the truck to misfire and also have trouble starting? I also know that the upper instake manifold gasket is leaking causing a bas smell in the cabin and I am sure I am losing HP. Is that an easy fix? Also I had forf put in new plugs and wires (motorcraft) and I can hear a misfire when driving I wonder if they didnt put 1 of the plugs in all the way or something. Any advice on this would be helpful.

Performing a search I see that you already asked the gas pedal thing in another thread. Were the answers there not good? (Not meaning to sound facetious, I'm just asking.)

And in regards to the others I would suggest search, search, search.

I'm not really a mechanic, just learning. On the plugs and wires the only advice I have is make sure the wires are on tight. If you didn't snap it down all the way it can misfire, or seem like one.

Other than that unfortunately I'm not much help.
