So I have been running my ford for awhile with 33s with my stock d1 3.27 gears and have bought 4.56 and just havent had the money to install them but now that I have the money for the install I heard that I would have to get a new carrier is this true and what even is that ?

I'm assuming this is a 2wd since you didn't mention getting gears for both axles....

Anyway, the Ford 8.8 axle you have does not have a carrier break. That means the same carrier is used for all gears.. Doesn't matter if they are 3.27:1 or 5.13:1, its the same carrier (the thing the ring gear bolts to)..

BTW.. setting up gears does require some specilized tools and you need to get things right or you will burn up the gears or possibly break off teeth on the gears.. Both of which are bad..

nah sorry it is 4 wheel drive and I'm not doing them myself I know a buddy that can do them and he has done gears numerous of times on toyotas ford rangera and other toys he has and thanks for the quick reply

Gotcha.. In that case.. He's problably going to ask.. Does the Dana 35 TTB in the front of your X have a carrier break.. The answer is No, the Dana 35 TTB does NOT have a carrier break.

That is a different answer than you will get if you just ask about a "Dana 35" which most people think refers to a jeep rear which does have it..

Also, double check that you got reverse rotation gears for your Front end.. They do make standard rotation (Jeep and 2nd gen explorer front ends use standard rotation when the TTB uses reverse)

Ya I got reverse rotation gears made sure awhile back I asked because on randys ring and pinion it confused me and it also says ifs.
