Explorer 4WD 1998
Dear Explorer-fans,
I just bought a used 1998 4WD and since some time there is a warning led as if the air suspension is shut down, even it isn't, after I drive for a couple of kilometers. Can anyone give me advice on what the problem could be because my dealer don't have an answer.
Thx.

So the air suspension works, but a light is coming on saying otherwise?

-Drew

Yes Drew, after I drive for some time there is a light on the right, just on top of the 4WD-sign. It's that light that normally appears when you put the air suspension off in the back when you got to be towed or whatever.
In the beginning that I got the car everything was normal, but suddenly it appeared. In the mean time I drove all ready over 2.000 km and nothing else seems wrong.

Does the air-suspension work as designed? When putting heavy stuff in the trunk, will it remain at a constant height? Can you hear the compressor working after shutting down?

Same Problem

I am having the same issues as Bart - e.g Light comes on when driving. However, turn the ignition off and back on and things are OK again until a few more miles when the lightcomes back on. How do I test if the air suspension is working?

I have the exact same issue. A check up at the local dealers only made me about $300 poorer and not much wiser. Their computer said too much air was flowing through the system, which indicates a leak. No leak could be found anywhere though...

Anyone...?

How do you know if you have air suspension? i have a '97 XLT. how would i know? When i first bought it i flet like i was riding in a oversized buick, but turned out to be the sway bar links!

If you check behind the little hatch at the left side in the cargo space, and there's an on/off switch there, that one is to enable/disable the air suspension levelling. It's located in the same space as the lift and tool for exchanging wheels...
