hey guys, got a question, probably no problem and really simple, but i haven't come across this before. I parked on at an angle last night, on a curb with the passenger side higher than the driver's, naturally. I moved the truck this morning and noticed a spot/puddle of oil below the rear axle and diff. I looked under the car and noticed that the oil wasn't from a leaking gasket or anything like that, but it appears to have come from a small hose that originates on the axle to the driver's side of the diff. the other end isn't attached to anything, maybe this is a over-flow hose? Maybe parking at the angle caused the oil to spurt out, not sure. I'm hoping some one could offer additional insight as to whether or not this is normal or if I should worry about it. Thanks.

That's the vent tube. If it's anything like mine, the truck would have to be upside-down for it to leak-- if you parked at enough of an angle to "submerge" the axel end of the tube I guess the air in the axel might have expanded enough to push out some fluid. My guess is that it wasn't much. If it was a significant amount though, you might want to top it off with some new gear oil.

Thanks, that helps, that's whati had thought and i was wondering if i should top it off or not. it doesn't seem like much came out, maybe 1-2 oz, but i'm not sure how much that is in comparison to how much it holds, i haven't had it long enough to need to change the gear oil.

one to two OZ less will not effect anything, not to worry, if anything you may have an overfill condition
