Does anyone in/near Cedar Rapids, Iowa know a trustworthy place to rebuild the D4 LS? I changed the fluid today and it looked ok, but the fill plug at the top had what looked to be mushy metal stuck to it. It was a strange grey pasty substance which I will assume is metal. I don't want to rely on the shop I've already took it to. Nice Mom n' Pop opperation but not to do this work. Any suggestions?

when i changed the fluid i had the same "paste" on the plug .. im not too worried about mine as there was no chunks of metal on it ... but you have already been having problems with it havent you?

The dreaded "shudder" in turns. The fluid look great and didn't smell burnt. Looked into it with a light and everything appreared to be in good shape. Not sure, but already spent 2k this month in repairs and not looking forward to an axle rebuild.

yea that definitely sucks man ... it would be awesome if they would recall our xs for all of these problems ... but what can ya do?

I tried calling Ford. I asked them to pay 50% of the total bill and all I got was "you're out of warranty", "keep your receipts in case we issue a recall". There's stuff all over the net about a class action lawsuit. Hope it goes through. I love my Ex, but not in love with the recent repairs.

That is a typical answer Ford gives. I want them to fix some stuff that is their fault and they give me the same Bullsh*t answer.

Did you put the friction modifier in with the fluid?

Yeah, I added the friction modifier. Driving to work and back today it did it less, but when it did it, it sounded terrible.
