With the help of all this excellent info, I decided to embark on replacing both noisy rear bearings on my 04 XLT. Ordered Timken hub kits and removed the knuckles. Called local machine shop, to press the new bearing, and when I arrived they said they couldn't do it. Went to NAPA, same answer. Got on the phone and started calling more shops. Of the 6 I got a hold of, not one seemed to really understand what I was trying to accomplish. Maybe I'm having trouble communicating my need. I know have the XLT in my gararge with no rear wheels!!! Any idea of where to take these knuckles to have the new bearing pressed? How can I explain myself better? Thanks in advance for any guidance you can send my way!

Napa should definitely be able to do it. The person you talk to probably is a retard or something. If worst comes to worst, go to Ford, they wont be cheap, but at least you will be able to drive your truck again lol

Look in phone book for machine shop in the Automotive Section of your yellow pages. Not all NAPA have the ability to press bearings. The few I check in Northern California did not have press.
