2015 Explorer Limited
I have a 2015 Explorer Limited and am going to be replacing the rear brake pads. I see that "standard" and "heavy duty" pads are both available. Is there a way to tell which one I have? I search this forum and managed to find only a single post saying that all models after 2013 have the heavy duty pads. Is this true?

My current pads a a bit squeaky and I've been considering a different pad material since I'm assuming they are ceramic currently. Any suggestions on which HD pads to go with? Amazon has a decent number of reviews for standard pads, but there doesn't seem to be much in the way of reviews for the HD pads I came across.

Not true, I posted a couple of weeks ago after buying replacement pads and finding out they did not fit. I have a 2014 and it has heavy duty brakes. I did some searching and found that Rock Auto, Auto Zone, Advanced Auto and the Wagner Website all show standard and heavy duty pads for the 2014 & 2015 Explorers. The difference is the position of the taps that fit in the slide on the caliper. (calipers are different also) If you go to Rock Auto they show photo of the pads so you can check to be sure you are getting the correct ones. I actually posted photos in the previous post, it was maybe three weeks ago. BTW, Rock Auto's prices are 30%-40% less than anyone else. I bought Wagner OEX pads which are supposed to be the best available. Less dust, shorter stopping distance, less heat etc. With tax and shipping they cost just over $40. By comparison O'Reilly's wants $71.99.

All I know is that every auto parts store plus Wagner show both standard and heavy duty brake pads for the 2014 & 2015 Explorer, and they are different. Just get heavy duty and I guess you will be covered.
