I just replaced the rear brake pads on my truck. I had only 25,000 miles on them and they were wore down to the rivets. I am now convinced that I need calipers as they have 165K on them. My question is, should I go with the more expensive and replace the whole caliper or has anyone had good luck rebuilding them. The replacement is $40.00 each, but the kit/piston is $15.00 each side. I've also noticed that in the morning the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor (spongy), but after driving it a few miles the brakes feels nice and firm.

I would go with the complete caliper as opposed to rebuilding what you have. I think that would be a lot easier, plus you are less likely to run into issues.

Well, I found out it was not the calipers that were at fault. It turned out that two of the valves in the "ABS Hydraulic Unit" were going south and would soon fail. Local Ford dealer wanted $1750.00 with exchange, but SilverStateFord had it for $1250.00. I ended up going to the salvage yard and getting one off a 98 Explorer with only 9000 miles on it for $200.00. I had to have the whole system bleed by the dealer after I installed everything but all is well again :)

Hey Rondo, I was looking at you're signal mirrors a while back and have to say I really like them and the write-up you did on them. Wish I would have found those before I bought the ones from SharkRacing. However, I am going to get the ones from hillbankmotorsports and put them on my Explorer and than take the SharkRacing signal mirrors and put them on my GT40.

Wow, very nice write up. Thanks to the last snow we got, my passenger mirror is cracked. Was trying to decide on just getting a replacement or doing something like this.

There you go! Have at it. Let me know if you have any questions! :salute:

Good deal. Let me know if you have any questions. After doing the shark racing ones, this will be a walk in the park.
