I spotted the same rear bumper protector in two different youtube videos and really like the look of it and how it folds over the edge just a bit. The civilian OEM protector doesn't fold over the edge and has the word EXPLORER on it. I prefer one like in the videos. However, I can't seem to find this particular protector/guard anywhere. Does anyone happen to recognize this protector and can tell me who makes it and where I could purchase one?

I rewatched one of the videos and the guy said they just came off of the truck, which tells me it's a factory part. But I haven't been able to find a part number on it yet.

EDIT: I believe I found it. It seems it came stock on the 2018-2019 MY. Mine's a 2017, that's why I had trouble finding the part number. However the rear bumper cover part number is the same for both years (2017 and 2018) so I imagine it will fit. 2018-2019 Ford Step Pad JB5Z-17B807-AA | Blue Springs Ford Parts

As I recall, the rear bumpers are different...and are cut out to fit that black step bumper piece. It won't fit your existent bumper. I had the same thought as yourself.

That being said, I had paint protection film placed on my '18 SHO when new. They did the edge of the bumper to help protect that area, as well as behind the door handles, front bumper, etc. You can probably buy a similar thing in black or carbon fiber to apply to your bumper.

You are correct. I confirmed that the part numbers are the same, but after searching out photos I clearly see a cutout for the step pad. I'm learning something new... that even though the part number may be the same, it's a different part based on the year. I also learned that the 2018 models were not offered with rear parking sensors. Mine has them. Another distinct difference for the same part number. FB5Z-17K835-ACPTM

A search would have found an existing thread on bumper protectors. ;)

At the risk of being argumentative....the 16-17 is absolutely a different part than a 2018 and later. There is no provision in the 16-17 for that step pad. Compare photos of the two, for example, on eBay...

My 2018 Sport originally came with a two-piece "pad" on the top of the rear bumper cover (the two-piece version may be something that is exclusive to the Sport?). It had an outer edge piece that is painted Gloss Black, and then a matte insert, and both pieces snap into an intricate series of holes in the top of the bumper cover (see photos). Mine had gouges and scratches deep into the gloss black paint, but the cost of a brand-new painted "frame" piece was ridiculous. (I also didn't care for the piece being painted in the first place).

Because it looked bad, I decided to use this opportunity to instead convert it to the more basic, one-piece "wrap over the edge" insert that my previous Explorer (an XLT) had come with. so I ordered that piece from Ford instead of the two original part(s). When it came, it easily snapped-in to these same holes, while also cleaning-up the entire look for me.

I don't know what other model years this one-piece cover might fit, or if it might fit a PIU, but it easily fit my 2018 Sport perfectly; the part number is JB5Z-17B807-AA, and my local dealer's price was $54.72.
