Not really sure if this is the area for a post like this, but here we go.

I was getting ready to replace my worn out drums with new ones, and saw this.

I knew the drums needed to be replaced. When I changed my break shoes and had the drums turned they were getting pretty thin. But, I had no idea this could ever happen.

Now I need a new backing plate, which Ford nolonger produces. So, I called the parts stores and Raybestos does not make one either. Then I checked out Currie's web site and holly crap there they are. Looks like I will be ordering them form Currie.

Any ways, has anyone else ever seen a backing plate warp like that before. For the life of me I cant figure out what would cause this to happen.

Here is a few more pics of the damage done to the driver side drum break.

Maybe the friction surface got so thin the heat sank into the plate and warped it? Remember brakes turn motion into heat, that's why thicker and larger is better: more ability to absorb and dissapate the heat safely.

The funny thing is the other side looks perfect and both drums are the same thickness. Its just strange, strange I tell ya.

I put it back together so I could drive it back and forth to work for the next few days. Hopefully currie will have the parts in stock and will get the here asap.
