all i can say, from my experience with lowering my explorer last week, is that you might want to look into a flip kit instead of the shackles. i am not an expert, but i do know that the springs on an explorer are set under the axle, so if you put a flip kit on it, it will put the springs on top of the axle. i think that a shackle kit will work, but i am not sure exactly how. i just thought you might want something else to consider besides the shackles. hope this helps.

if he does a spring over conversion that would raise the back too much, it would be atleast 5 inches

cool, you learn something new everyday. at least now i know for the future. thanks for the help, maybe i should stick to the stuff that i do know about, and leave the other stuff to people that actually do this stuff.
later. LOL

Two options, add-a-leaf or shackles..I have the add-a-leaf, many have the shackles..Shackles are the cheaper way out..I've heard, but have not tried this myself, that some have put their bottle jack on the spring, next to the axle and jacked the body to remove the bolt. You do not have to jack much, only take the pressure off the bolt..If you are still unsure, take it to a shop..This could be very dangerous for someone without experience. With the add-a-leaf, I blocked the rig, unbolted one side, jacked the body in front of the spring, disassembled the spring, reinstalled, lowered the body back onto the axle..One side at a time. The whole process took about 2 hours..

in addition to what mdrut said, shackles will lift by placing the spring pack farther away from the frame thus lifting the body further away from the axle.

about the torsion twist u can go over 2 inches but u might not be able to align it i would go to maybe 2 1/2 and if the alignment shop can't align it they will take it down a bit

Even if you do go over 2" on the TT it will start to ruin your ride because you'll loose all your downtravel.

Just did the shackle lift 2 weeks ago. I jacked the rear frame (one side at a time) just before the wheel came off the ground. Really easy. Only took about 45 min. Helped mine alot!

ok let me see if im understanding you correctly, you put the jack on the rear part of the frame, jacked one side at a time up just until the wheel was off the ground, i understand that, then do u just unbolt the stock shackles from the frame??? thanx

Actually the jack was placed right in front of the leaf spring, befor the front shackle, on the frame. The springs came out pretty easy.

kcsport 00..
how much of a lift is that on your truck? and did you lift front and back? thanks.

I havent lifted the front any, Just the back. The shackles gave me about an inch and ahalf. My rear is a little higher (not much) but when I pull the boat its perfect!
