I have an 03 Explorer Limited 4wd and as I am driving at any speed, there is a humming noise coming from the rear. As I slow down it sounds like something is rubbing together. All of my tires are the same make and the correct size for the car. It is becoming louder as of late. Any ideas?

Either rear wheel bearings or rear axle problem.

Could be any number of issues. You can read around the forum as it's VERY common but without looking at it and driving it, very hard to diagnose. Even with hearing it in person..difficult. We sell quite a few of these diffs all over the country. If you are interested in replacing it just check the link in my sig. Good luck either way!

I had the same problem in my 2000. It started off as a slight hum and progressively got louder until it sounded like there was no fluid in the diff. Turns out pinion carriers and bearings had ground pits in one another. I know the humming is common on 3rd gens but I would have somebody check the diff if it gets any worse.
