Had a local ford dealership replace rear main seal, changed it 3 times last time put in a sleeve, still leaks. They say next step is to replace crankshaft, does this sound right. They are paying for it all.

rear seal replacement

are they putting indian head sealer on the engine side of the seal ? you cant just put the seal in . I had this problem . When I pulled the old one out there
was no sealer on it . Thi could be your problem or wrong seal

I do not know about the sealer, I will ask them friday. Thanks

sleeve forever

When a sleeve is installed it scratches the crankshaft so from that point on a sleeve must always be installed. Ford dealers should have a special tool for removing the rear main seal and another tool for installing one. Which engine - 4.0L or 4.6L?

I just purchased this vehicle about a month ago and this is covered under warranty. They said they are replacing the crankshaft. Should I have them replace oil pump while they have it apart, it would be at my cost.

odometer reading?

The oil pump usually lasts 200K miles or more. I have 160K miles on my Sport and the oil pressure is fine. A new OEM oil pump (4L2Z6600A) lists for $88. I wouldn't pay more than $150 total (parts+labor) to have them install it.

Off this topic or maybe part of it. I got the oil light and lots of ticking. sounds like oil pressure fell through the floor. Could this be as simple as the oil pump failing?

You guys have a link to tutorial on how to replace the oil pump?

Oil pump is a hellova job. You need to disconnect the transmission as it bolts to the bottom of the cradle, lift the engine and remove the pan and cradle. I have the engine out of mine right now to do the timing and I am going to change the pump while I am in there just because.
