You are the first post I've seen for this question, so I'd say it's not common.

It drips off the bell housing looking like that.Took to a shop and my pcv was out of the boot and repaired and replaced and seem to be better till I added some oil and now its leaking again.

Did you add oil because it was low?
How quickly is it losing oil?

Only added when it was at the add line.1/2 l or 1/2 qt.In total 1l or 1qt in 4000km or 2500mi

You sure its the seal and not the upper pan gasket? They use a one piece gasket on the cradle, but it has the rubber gasket, kind of like the old chevy 350 did, around the bump for the crank shaft. They do like to leak from there. You need to pull the motor or transmission to get at the rear seal, the pan can be pulled in the truck but its still a real dog to get out.

Thanks never thought of that I will have closer look. That would make me feel better.

On the V8's, if it's 2wd the oil pan can be pulled engine in. 4wd, you either lift the engine or drop the front axle assembly. Not sure on the V6 models.

Have you checked the valve cover gasket? I would look there first and it's an easier job. Oil from up above will travel and ultimately end up in the area you mentioned. Let us know what you final fix was.

+1. The valve covers like to leak at the back corners especially if they are the original gaskets.
