- 1998 Explorer Eddie Bauer
Ok, bought myself a 1998 Eddie Bauer as a family hauler. Purchased it for relatively little money because it literally had NO BRAKES. Rear drivers side completely failed with paper thin rotor and blown caliper. No parking brakes at all either.
Replaced all four corners with new Raybestos parts, and rebuilt the parking brake with same. New shoes, new hardware, and new rear cables (old ones siezed and collapsed in on themselves). Drivers side came out in pieces, springs were all broken and the shoes had no lining left. Pass side was passable, but only barely.
Problem now is that I have a binding in the parking brake, specifically the passengers side. if I have used the park brake, when I back up, I go about 10 feet, and then its like hitting a wall. I can power through it but not easily. I backed off the adjusters, and its a bit better, but I think the issue is in the pedal assembly.
I cannot get a pin through the hole to hold the assembly, no matter how much I yank on the cable to release it. I get it through the front side, through the pedal, but cannot get through the back of the plate to hold the spring loaded pedal in place.
Is there another way to back off the spring loading to reset the pedal assembly other than by pulling on the cables?
I also have a metallic grinding coming out of the pass rear brake, but that appears to be the backing plate scuffing on the rotor. That should be an easy fix.
What is also driving me up a wall is what sounds like a gear noise, but cannot isolate to either front or rear diff (auto 4x4). are these trucks just a bit naturally noisy, or do I need to worry about grenading an axle?
