My 96 Eddie Bauer is acting weird. The kiddie locks are off but the doors refuse toopen from inside. Took my boss and secretayr to lunch today and had to let her out from outside. Anyone experience this before?

Very common. The interior handel has to be replaced. There are a couple of good threads about replaceing it. I did it three yrs ago and it isnt a bad job.
A search should get you all the info you need.

Thanks, Bill...... search didn't turn up anything until I really got specific. Looks like the handle! Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I just replaced mine yesterday -- the gear in the handle mechanism gets worn and it slips a tooth. The whole door handle is $16 from the dealer, and it took maybe 15 minutes to replace it. I replaced the door fasteners too, so add another $5 to the total job.

Same thing for me...there's what I call a small plastic cam on the handle that broke off mine. Required interior handle replacement. Easy job.

Had to replace the broken rear handles when I bought my 97. That still didn't fix it. Took squirting in a ton of oil in the latches and gently working the lever about 30 time before it worked. The latch grease dries out and people think pulling on the handle harder will make it work. That only breaks the plastic gear.

Thanks guys. This forum is better than a Ford Stealer and Repair dept any dy. Replced both rear door hanle mechanisms. One was broken and the piece fell out in my hand when I took it out. The other one was stripped. $31 from the Ford Stealer. Thanks agin.

Today....the billet grille finally gets an install.

xplorerKid......If you find a good thread for the procedure to replace the door handle please post it here. Mines not completely gone but it's on its way. Thanks.
