I was wondering whether or not i could rig up some sort of switch to the rear radio controls on the center console. I want to just put a switch in the dash which would turn the controls on or off, thus eliminating my dumba$$ friends from messing with my radio. is this possible, and does anyone know how to do it?

put the radio on AM or FM and press 3 and 5 at the same time. The little headphones icon in your display should go off. You may have to do this everytime you have someone in the back.

no worries, glad I could help.

The rear seat controls will stay deactivated when following Alec's method until you turn the radio off with the radio power button. Turning your car on and off will maintain your current setting. Just remember if you see the headphones, the rear seat controls are active.

why cant it ford just say that, or put a button, but why does it have to be so complicated, christ, anyways, thanks alec!

Wow I never knew that! I was just going to disconnect it... lol

It's in the manual :)

No it's not. It might be in your '96 but Ford forgot to put it in both '97 editions that I have owned. I believe it made it back for the '98 manual though when they changed the radio.

Well it's in mine :)

It did take Ford almost a page to outline the procedure though :p
