Need some help.

I've tried to search for the manufacturer of my rear timing chain tensioner. The tensioner has the following stamped on the lower collar of the body of the part. Part # TC.40.A.302 40.

If you have any idea who the manufacturer is, I might be on my way to finding the source of my defective tensioner.

EDIT: EngineQuest is the closest I've found to have part numbers starting with TC

Thanks

Eddie -
And how the heck can you see the part # on a rear tensioner of the famous Ford 4.0 ?
I assume the baby is out again ......

Yes, its that time of year again!!!
Plan is a bit lofty this time. New Motorcraft timing chain kit. New LH head-gasket. Head will be sent to the machine shop for inspection - rebuild, if needed.
It's so much easier to pull the motor for the third time.

"write a book" that's funny. I have to agree.

About $450 -- off the cuff guess for the Motorcraft. Maybe less. My Dad worked for Ford for a long long time so I still know some of the parts guys. I hope to get the parts as close to cost as possible. HOWEVER, the Cloyes kit looks really good and is significantly less expensive so now I'm leaning that direction. I've read good reviews on the Cloyes kits.

My only stress is installing the new head bolts and having the head replaced or rebuilt. I don't know "how" to crank the head bolts - all at the same time in sequence or half torque the first time around the sequence and then torque to spec 2nd time around the sequence - then torque to yield as a final step...? I'll do some research too on this as I know I'm not the first.

I am sure you have seen this video:

I have Ford workshop manuals for 06 Explorers. I can take pictures with the torque specs and sequence for installing the heads on 4.0 if you want.

Or maybe someone has it in pdf format.

Now that would be very very helpful - thank you!!!! Yes, I’ve binge watched this video quite a few times. It is informative. Makes it look easy.

Here it is.

Did you ever figure this out? I bought supposed ford OEM blue box tensioners on ebay. I'm not sure that they didnt put Chinese tensioners in the blue box, trying to figure out if I got scammed or these are real ford parts

Looks good to me box and all.

Why not go manual tensioner?
Then be done with it forever

I know there are a lot of scams going on on ebay and Amazon switching Chinese parts for oem.. These boxes have greasy fingerprints on them leading me to think the boxes have been reused. I cant seem to find any info on the numbers stamped on the tensioners

I'm not aware of manual tensioners made for the 2003 4.0, I've looked but cant find anything

Few years ago I purchased a new Tensioner (which I never used) in sealed plastic from a Ford Dealer PN: 7U3Z-6K264-A ... the number stamped on it is TC.40.A.302 40.

I find grease to
just someone with dirty hands repackaging the part into a ford bag

I had not been able to verify if my tensioner was a Ford part. Based on the unsealed bag containing that part I would say it’s Ford part. Thank you for the update. Manual tensioner looks very interesting.
