not an option, i like it deafening, mainly to make other people mad (j/k) but i HATE it. also tonight i was sittin in my driveway bumpin and when the sub hits the lights, inside and out, visibly dim; and the engine RPM's dip 100-200 RPM. is this because of my battery? if so what kind do you suggest that is fairly cheap?

Who installed your equipment?

You might need a cap.

just a suggestion, I dont know how well it would work... but maybe you can take off the mirror, and put like a small piece of rubber in teh shape of the button (mounting bracket) between the button and the mirror? It'd have to but cut in the exact same shape as the bracket though. and make sure the screw holding it onto the button is really really tight

me and a friend did it. why would i need one of those? arent they a lot? Steve: i thought about that i think its the ring around the actual mirror im gonna take it apart and see.

Do you have the standard mirror or the electrochromatic one?

Well on my mom's explorer that sucker fell off one day. Maybe you should check to see if it's loose.

If your stereo is effecting your electrical system in that sort of way, it's either

A) sucking too much power, cap might help
or
B) has been installed improperly

I'm not trying to knock your installation skills, it's just my opinion. It shouldn't be effecting your RPMs especially. As for your mirror, Steve's rubber idea will probably work. Some of my friends have actually rattled their mirrors completely off 3 or 4 times. Make sure it's on there TIGHT!!! ;)

I second one might ;)

Wait until Leenjen gets wind of this thread, he can tell you exactly what's going wrong.

i usually take my rearviw mirror off. it's easier that way for me. i've had mirrors fall off and windshields split in my cars.

about the dimming and fluctuation of rpm and voltage:

your best bet is to upgrade the stock alternator. it will only put out up to 90 amps cold. when your system is on, it fights your vehicles electical system for power (lights, heater fan, A/C, windows, power steering, power brakes, spark going to engine, etc....). a 130 amp alternator will help, but a 200 amp alternator is definately worth the extra $$. check out mr. alternator, mean green, or if you've got money to burn... Stinger.

also how thick are your power wires? 4 guage would be best for your setup.

if you dont have the cash for a new alternator right now, then maybe you should check the voltage regulator. i dont think it's going to be the answer, but it's possible if you get a lot of fluctuation.

a 1 farad cap will help with intense deep bass hits when the amp gets starved for power. i use capacitors in my systems and the results are great. but i dont think it will do much to help your current situation. they store power for quick use, but after an extended period they need to recharge. and they take a lot longer to recharge than discharge. that's why you should get the alternator first.

Well for one thing that can cause your RPM'S to drop. If he's pulling that much power than the altenator os going to work it's as off every time it hits and possibly bog the motor a little. If you check the connections on a high power system right at the altenator it is pulling it way down trust me. Mine when it hit pulled all the way down to 7 volts at the altenator and I have a cap. They really don't work to well IMO. I still dim lights (not as bad) but it wasn't worth the 100 bucks.

A second battery will not help you. It will just be another load on the alternator. All another battery is good for is to extend you listening time with the car off.
A cap might help a little but I doubt it. The main advantage of a cap is that it can release power faster than most batteries and can improve the sound of the bass What you want to do is measure the battery voltage while the car is running and see how low it goes. If it goes below 10 volts I normally reccomend a higher output alternator to my customer.
When choosing a alternator I find out what there driving habits are. If they do alot of city driving I look for one that has a higher output at a lower engine speed.

When you use a cap 'cause of dimming lights, its just acting as a band-aid... I use one on my 800a2 of 1 set of it's power inputs, but only for quick bass notes. You could get a new alternator, but they can be pricy, I've always had mine re-wired for higher amps. I live in an armpit town and theres a guy that does it in his garage, check your phone book, it is alot cheaper than a whole new one, and just as good.
