OK,

As a recap, I could not repair my old electric shift motor. I got a rebuilt one and installed it, but 4x4 still not working. I am positive I have it (and all the wires) installed the way they were.

One point: To get the motor to fit over the triangular trasfer case shaft, I had to remove the bracket from the end of the motor so I could rotate it a few degrees further counterclockwise - otherwise it would not slip onto the shaft. I then replaced the bracket onto the motor and everything fit OK.

Since this motor is new to my transfer case, is it likely that I need to rotate the plate at the back of the electric motor's gear housing to match the shaft position of this particular transfer case? I'm refering to the part you need to match-mark before you take the motor apart.

I did unhook the connectors from the module in back, turned the key on and pushed the test button. It flashed several times and went out.

Any ideas?

it might be your auto-locking hubs that are the problem and not the shift motor

Thanks. But no...it worked perfectly when I had the motor off and turned the shaft to 4H w/pliers.

I just put my rebilt one on last night.Every thing work with the motor on the ground and the wiring conected but not when I bolted it to the case.About A hour later and 4 or 5 times taken the motor off and on,I found that it worked fine untill I gave the bolts there final turn.So what I did is backed every thing back off and loosened the suport bracket on the back of the shiftmotor and pushed it in just A little bit t'ward the transfer case and tightened every thing back down and it worked fine after that. :chug: Just needed A little endplay in there I guss.Hope this helps.

Wow thanks, I'll try that. Maybe it's bound up. Like I said, I did have to take off the rear bracket and rotate the motor a little counterclockwise to get it onto the shaft (which means that when I put the motor on it twisted the shaft clockwise a little past the 4H position).

BTW, the label on my rebuilt said not to put any power to it until it was completely monted, something about reversing the polarity of the motor. don't know what that's all about but it made me afraid to test the motor b4 I put it on. did you just hook up all the wires and push the dash buttons?

I swear I am going to make a manual setup to do the shifting, even if I do get this fixed for now. Been a Ford man all my life, but when they started trying to civilize 4x4's like this, they caused a whole lot of problems.

You've got mail, my friend.

Fill them mugs up again, on me! Worked like a charm, in fact I added it to Brain's excellent thread. You da man! ;)
