I know there's a lot of information on rebuilding a shift motor and I plan on rebuilding mine, but I bought one recently from a guy on here to install now and rebuild mine as a spare. when I tried installing it I can't get the triangular shaped rod from the tcase to fit into the hole in the motor. I put 12v to the motor to move the selector piece to be exactly the way the one that came out was. I even tried reinstalling the one I had just removed and it won't go back on either. Do those shafts seen any wear that it could be a little warped? Is there a trick to getting the motor back onto the tcase or is it just a lot of fiddling? Does it help if tcase is in a certain position for the install?
Thanks

Roger

When I did mine, I plugged in the motor to the car harness and left the motor not attached. Then got in the car and put the key to acc position then hit the 4x4 button, waiting for the lights to come on, and then hit the 4x4 button again. I then turned the key to off and got back under the truck and it bolted right up. It was easy to just let the 4x4 controller find the correct position.

I didn't even think about letting the motor do it's own shifting to make sure it's correct. I'll give that a shot tonight. Thanks
