Seemed to cure most noises so far- I'll see in the morning when I heard it most and when I do a hot start after going to the store or something. Im glad they were able to do it in a day

BajaXplorer good luck with it.
There was a big diference when mine was swapped out. I did notice I picked up a "new shift pattern" after it was done. I disconnected the battery to reset the "puter", rode it hard for about 10 minutes and it seeemd to do the trick.

Once in a while when accelerating, I hear the exact same clanging. I was tempted to go back to the dealer.
Anyone have the same problem?

Whats this recall involve? Thanks

Igottwo-

I have that same problem. Happens occasionaly. I went back to the dealer about it, and they said they couldnt reproduce the noise. Go figure.

Actually its still a bit noisy ?
The recall involves replacement of the cam tensioner and the lower manifold(where you would bolt headers to) gaskets.
I wonder if they did both or does this cover only one gasket??

Ford calls for the dealer to do both. As far as the reputability of your dealer?

Although the majority of the my start up clanging cleared and the car runs so much better I still have the clang on my first few cold accelerations. I trying not to be one of those people that "looks for noises (problems)"

You may not believe this but I found a dealer that I trust and is very straight up when it comes to questions. ie you don't have to go in like some screaming idiot to get their attention.
I'm going to stop by and ask the service guys when I am in the area. ?within the next few days? If interested I'll pass on any info.

nonrelated: I hate to cut and paste from WORD. What happened to the spell checker. My education level drops 5-10 years when I type. haha

So there has actually been a recall on those SOHC engines? It's not just an extended warentee deal? My friend's dad just bought a 98 SOHC and it makes a sound that sounds like lifters upon startup and it did it until we had drivin it a bit. He has like 58K on it. Should he bring it in soon or just keep driving? We do not know the history of this car since he just bought it.

Id have him contact http://www.ownerconnection.com

Have him let the person at owners connection know you have info on it but would like more and wondered if his X was eligible(it is until 72K.)

They(Ford) will in turn call the dealer that your buddies dad want to take his X to and they will set up an appointment for the recall work.

actually quite simple but it takes a few minutes on the phone with Ford(worth it)

Good luck.

Doug
