ran the 91 octane torque program tonite using 93 octane fuel.. did not realise that till i finish. anyway, will this afftect anything if i use a higher grade fuel for the 91 octane program?
as usual, when u think it cannot get better, it did. pulled all the way up to 3500rpm, and was still poulling.. i had to let go of the gas cause .. i am conservative. i am sure if i kept on it, it would go up higer then 4k and keep pulling. i never felt my truck pull like that before. awesome.
btw..so far,.,.no check engine light.
doug, u think the check engine light could be due to the 87 octane torque program? i drive it a fwe days and see if the check engine light comes on with the 93 prog.
again...WWWOOOOOWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guy,

Running a octane of fuel that is higher then the program is rated for is fine, just make sure you never run an octane fuel that is lower then the program is setup for.

Reflashing the PCM will not have any affect on the PCM. I guaruntee I've reflashed my own PCM in my 99' Ranger more then most guys will ever do in their entire lifetime and I've yet to have any affects.

As for the CEL it could have been something with the fuel but if not then let me know and I'll be happy to look further into it.

Thanks, Doug.

ok. i will finish the 93 octane..run my 87 torque for a few days and see what happens. will keep u updates. thanks again

ok i am just wondering but are we not really supposed to get our rpms above 3500?? cau se i mean when i get on the free way or something i mean i step on it i can get it up to about 4000-4500rpms!! no problem!!! i mean i only have small changes but mean the way it picks up is like whoa! and this chip your talking about why is it more expensive then the others you see out there for like $297 for a jet mod, also hypertech has one for like $257 i mean whats the difference?? i am new to chips so lemme know!!

The Xcalibrator and the previous version the Microtuner are very different from you standard performance chip. Where the chip is actually installed into the computer port where there is a potential for connection concerns, the tuners plug into the OBDII port and reflash the computer to the performance programs you choose. Typically they hold three or four programs, and also save your factory tune. It just takes a few minutes to switch from any custom tune to the factury tune. Plus the microtuners have OBDII diagnostic code reading capabilities.

In addition to this the tuners now allow the use of a cable to connect them to your PC at home. From there you can download free software from SCT that will allow you to make minor adjustments to the tuning. Or have tuners such as Doug here from Bamachips e-mail you a custom based on your trucks specifics.

Thanks Dreamr for your help. Everything he's said is correct, although I need to say that the tuner will hold three aftermarket programs along with your factory program so that is the fourth. A Multi-program chip can hold 4 aftermarket programs.

The reason we are more, because we are better. If you buy a Jet or Hypertech the chip or even tuner they sell you will work on more then just one vehicle. Why you ask or even how? Because they make very vague and general changes that will work on all vehicles or one style of vehicle. They have to keep the changes to a minimum because of this.

On an SCT based program we have to request your calibration code from your PCM and we then start from your actual base file from Ford and modify it from there. We can adjust for anything from MAF swaps, injectors, to tranny shift points and much more. We have FULL controll over the PCM.

Finally the last thing that must be said is the diference in year models and product availability. Unfortunatly I can't do a whole lot with the EEC4 Explorer's if anything at all. You can't adjust any of the transmission functions on these, or atleast the ones I've done. You can pick up some power from the better spark and fuel curves but only when using 93. Using 87 you could still see some gains but it may be limited. Most of the EEC4 tuning I've done has been for very performance orenited customers with aftermarket cams, ported heads, nitrous and so on.

The BIG problem on the ECC4 Explorer's and Ranger's is the lack of support for the PCM calibration codes. I have done about 20 over the last few months. Most of the codes I have or had to send the PCM's to SCT for them to download but if I have to request the code then it can take a while for SCT to request it from Ford and for them to get it in. The last calibration code request I did took two months, I've put in for another here recently and I'm still waiting.

EEC4 is like comparing Windows 3.1 to Window's 2000, yes it can be used and work well but the new operating system is much better. They can be upgraded and used, heck I've got one guy making 284rwhp and 450rwtq from a OHV 4.0 in a 93' Ranger, but it's the wait that can kill ya.

If a mod would like to break this question into a new post that would be fine by me :)

Thanks, Doug.

Doug,
i ran the 93 octane on the 91 trq prog and i got a check engine light this morning. it is still there. wht should i do? it drives fine.

Did you get a programming cable? If so then I can review your tuning here and make the necesary adjustments and email you some new files. If not then we'll do something else...

Let me know, Doug.

yes, fortunately i did. :) let me know what u find out

I made a few adjustments to some adaptive tables. I've since emailed the new files to you from there. You should be set to go!

I'm sorry for the CEL but everytruck is different and this is where SCT shines.

Thanks, Doug.

thanks. i am gonna go get it from the car now and reprogram it. thanks and i will let u know what happens.

Doug

I'm curious if you do strictly domestic makes and models. I recently picked up a 2004 Nissan Xterra and am curious if you can or know someone that has the capability to do something similar to what your programs do for my new truck. I'm completly new to chips, flasher's etc.. You seem to be the guy to talk to about this. If you could post back here or email me at chadharaschak@yahoo.com I'd love to hear if you can do anything.

It's funny you should ask as I have a ranger customer that recently purchased a Frontier and has just gotten back from the dyno. Unfortunatly I don't have any software for anything other then a Ford.

Here's a link to his site and his results anyways though...

Thanks, Doug.

Got mine today from group buy. Loaded 87 performance and noticed first the throttle response change. The shifting matched better with higher rpm's instead of going through all the gears before 50mph. Will provide updates on 91per/91torq when I test. Thanks Doug for all the help with the programs. Another satisfied customer of Doug's..... make this a must upgrade to your explorer!!!

Hey guy,

I'm very happy your pleased with it. Like I said it was a new deal that I had to do quite the leg work on it but I wanted to ensure everything was just the way it needed to be. I appreciate your patience with me and if there's anything else I can do for you in the future then please just let me know.

Thanks, Doug. :D

would a chip help in a 94 explorer that has a manual trans?
