Recliner Bolt Recall Question

Okay... I got the notice like a month ago and still havent taken it in for this because I have been busy with less important things on my truck.

Anyways my recliner lever for the driver's side seat is broken off... anyone know if they replace it?

Luckily it broke off when my seat was reclined in the right position....

The same thing happened to mine, I asked the ford dealership about the part, it is the whole metal unit on the side they have to replace, the part itself costs $75. The service guy mentioned nothing about a recall, if there is, that could be nice! Let me know!

i had mine done it makes the seat feel more studry and you it doesent move forward 6 inches if you push it from behind anymore.

my recipt says 98-02

Luckily it broke off when my seat was reclined in the right position....

The recliner bolt recall is just that, apparently the bolt can break because they used a low strength bolt which can cause the seat back to suddenly drop back and you could loose control. Mine was replaced recently under the recall. The recliner lever, however, is a different item and you'll have to pay to have them replace it. You can do it yourself, just search the forum for how to do it. The recall for the bolt was for 98 to 2001? models I believe, something like 1.7 million vehicles I believe I read!

The seat recliner lever is a common thing to break. It's just in the way, and can only be bent so many times. I wasn't going to replace it with a lever I'd break off in a year, so I made my own shorty lever.

How did you make your own? I've thought about it, but I haven't put enough thought into it yet to figur eout the best way.

I had mine replaced too. Since it was free, I didn't mind letting them do it. The handle replacement isn't bad, we did it on my friends X, and basically I just took the instructions from the site, and sat in the back seat reading what to do while he did the work.

I couldn't figure out a way to do it without drilling and tapping the seat. I was leary of drilling the pegs the factory lever was pressed onto, because I didn't want to weaken anything. This works, and isn't in the way. A straight bar could also be used, and would be just as good. I suppose you could "keyhole" the lever and use a locking plate to hold it in the skinny part of the keyhole.
