Recommendations for Battery

can the stinger 1200 be used as the

Primary battery ?

because a few people have told me differently.....
saying that they were not designed as a primary battery and will die out within a year or two.

I always made it a habbit to get a new battery every 3-4 years.....before something happend,so I'm just about there.but with the AC on with my aftermarket system,the lights aren't as bright as they should be,and the needle does drop .

also,if these stingers can be used the primary {sole}
battery,can they be used with a high output alternator ?
I'll be gettibg one of those in a few months.

Yes they can be used as the primary battery as for how long it will last i dont know. My stinger is about 3 months old. I have a pic. of it in my sig. I bought mine thourgh www.darvex.com ie. Bagboy on Ebay. He is a really nice guy to work with and his shipping is fast. When i was asking questions about the optima v. stinger he told me it will outlast the optima for a fact. So how long do optimas last usually? Than gauge it from there. Ask him he will get back to you extremely quick! BTW yes they can be used with high output altenators.

The advatage of the batteries like the Stinger and Optima is they can be mounted any way, upside down on there side and such, and if you mount them in a trunk or back of your truck you will not get acid leaking like a regular battery because the acid is absorbed in a matt. The Stinger battereis can be used a a main battery. The will outlast any regular lead acid battery. Stinger says they can handle up to 300 complete cycles with no damage, try doing that with a regular lead acid battery.

I just ordered the stinger sp1000 from my car stereo place,I also told them to get some terminals in stock,the stinger stuff looks great.$200. for the battery,and about $25. for the terminals with covers.

I really wanted the big battery,but at 13" wide,it would have been crammed into the abs brakes system ?
not a goiod idea.,

I'm sure the sp1000 will be strong enough for my truck.

Sweet lets see some pictures when you put it in!

i would have to say optima yellow or red top, or an exide orbital battery (basically optima--exide makes the optimsa batteries)

I just recently got a Stinger SP1000 and am interested in how everybody else with the same battery mounted theirs. Any suggestions?

I mounted it on it's side,I also made a sort of custom "hold down" aluminum strap,I really wish I could of fit the larger {largest battery from stinger},but the damn thing was an inch too long :mad: {I would have had to move the ABS sytem to get it to fit}

also,the stinger battery is made by Hawker,and hawker gives a better warranty {I found this out after I bought the stinger ?}

I use a powermaster 200 amp alt. along with heavy stinger wire from alt and fuse box.

you will alsoi need a special charger for this type of battery !!!!!!!!
do not let a mechanic charge it with an ordinary charger or you WILL cause damage to it.
you need an AGM charger,when if if it's necessary....get the AGM with the most amps for fast charging.

I've had mine 2 years now !
