2011 Ford Explorer XLT
Hi there -- new to the forum. I have a 2011 XLT with 133K miles. The car has been driven about 5000 miles a year for the past five years. We are leaving for a big vacation in a few weeks and will be towing an RPOD which is about 1100 pounds. So we are having all the service caught up before the trip. Where we currently live there is not a worthy ford dealership in our area and are using a non-ford repair shop

At 71,700M the transmission was "flushed" by Ford. Nothing since. We know we will put 10,000+ miles on the car this summer we planned to do another fluid -- the question here is "flush" or "drain and Fill" or something else?

I have read all the forum threads about the issues with flushing but some threads are contradictory.

What do you think? Should we play it safe and do a drain and fill -- knowing we are going to be hard towing during the hot summer months or do a flush ??

thanks
Stephanie

Welcome to this forum! Disconnect a transmission return line, add a quart of fluid while you drain a quart of fluid until the fluid looks clean, then reconnect the line. Add an external filter, and a heavy duty transmission cooler.

Welcome to the Forum Stephanie.
I think a drain and fill would be preferable over a flush.
