I have remote locking on my 97 explorer (stock) for some reason today it is not working...

the little red light is coming on, on the controller but the car will not lock

any ideas :-(

Does it not work with your other remote controller? Or did you only get one with it?[most come with 2 ].

no it does not work with the other one...... its really strange if you leave it for a day it comes back to life again :-( but ahhh what could be wrong? maybe a loose wire?

Man, I wish I knew more about the remote circuit. I would start by checking that the fuse does not have an intermittent break in it. The expanding metal if cracked in the fuse could be affected by the ambient temp, and could account for the intermittent nature of the problem. I would rule that out by replacing the appropriate fuse in the fuse panel. Our Explorer Sport is new, so I don't have a manual for it yet. I do have a Haynes manual for the 1997 Mustang GT, our other Ford. It indicates that the remote is triggered by infrared, sent by the transmitter[ on your keyring], and the receiver in the Mustang is in the trunk somewhere, which then operates the door locks. I don't know where it is in your vehicle. Wish I could be of more intelligent assistance. God bless.
